I give my 7kg (15lb) dog a krill oil capsule daily. I know you should also give vitamin E when giving fish oil. The recommended dosage of E for small dogs is 100-200iu, but the lowest dosage i can find is 400iu.. How many times per week should i give him a capsule? I was thinking 3 times per week, or should i do more, considering he gets fish oil every day?

The most current recommended does for Vitamin E that I know of is 5-7 IU per pound for small dogs taking fish oil. At 15lbs, that’s a maximum of 735 IU a week. You don’t want overdo it too much as E is a fat soluble vitamin. I would not give the 400 IU more than twice a week. Even better if you can find a 200 IU capsule and go with two or three times a week.

Here is a link to a great website with supplement recommendations. You can click on Vitamin E near the top of the page to be taken straight to that subject. There you can see the recommendations for E for various needs. http://dogaware.com/diet/supplements.html#start

Thanks for your reply. I ended up getting a bottle of fish oil with the correct levels of vitamin E already added, it comes in a measured pump dispenser, which is so much easier than faffing around with pricking and squirting the contents of capsules into his food.
