Hi all! Does anyone on this forum have experience with Scottish Deerhounds and/or Irish Wolfhounds? Would love to hear what you all think about their temperaments, as individual breeds and in comparison to each other. Pros and cons of each? Thanks!

I've not owned one, but I've known quite a few Irish wolfhounds. All were easy going and tolerant. Sadly, they're lifespans are often relatively short, but owners have told me they'd rather have a wolfhound for five years than any other breed for fifteen.

I have Wolfhounds. There are too many pros to list. (I'm a tad biased) :)
The only true con is their short lifespan, although my oldest girl, Mouse, will
be 9 years old in March. All the other stuff like needing bigger everything, larger
vet and food bills etc. are just part of owning a giant breed.
If you are seriously considering a Wolfhound, I strongly recommend the book
The Magnificent Irish Wolfhound by Mary McBryde. It's a bit pricey, but worth
every penny. Or perhaps your library will have it.
For fun, I asked my family and a some close friends to give me one word to
describe wolfhounds. (my three)
Calm
Patient
Loyal
Gentle
Awesome
Super dignified
Very intelligent
Sensitive
And from me: they make me smile/laugh every day.

Hello, I have a 9 month old deerhound that I bought from 8 months so very new to us! I read that they are not known to bark that much. However, mine seems to bark quite a lot even though he's got everything he needs. Can anyone suggest ways to stop this please..many thanks :)
