I always recommend that if possible, owners attend a pet first-aid course. They are absolutely invaluable, and while reading articles and watching videos is great, when it comes to something so important, there is no substitute for a good instructor who can correct you on every step of a procedure, and make sure that you are doing it 100% correctly!

Emergencies are scary. I'm glad you posted. I took a first aid class a few years ago and I can honestly say, I remember about 1/3 of it. This post reminds me that I need a refresher course.

If you're interested in learning more, the Red Cross facilitates canine and feline first aid classes. I think you need a minimum # of people to sign up (like 15-20).
