All right. What do you suppose Finn here is?
(He weighs about 90 lbs and the dog pictured with him is my 55 lb Standard Poodle, for the record.)
The rescue said Giant Schnauzer.
I'll post the Embark results shortly and we'll see who the best guesser is...

Oh I'm just soooo BAD at these. But, for the sake of comedic entertainment I'll take a guess.

Hmmm ... long legs ... abdominal tuck ... athletic build .. . 'shaggy' coat ...

I'm thinking there's something wolfhound-ish in there.

Can't wait to see! I wouldn't be surprised if he is a purebred giant schnauzer, but I'm going to be bold and throw in Irish wolfhound :D

I'm going to go far-fetched and say Black Russian Terrier, lol (it's probably not BRT)

Irish Wolfhound x Poodle, or Giant Schnauzer x Poodle.

I love that hidden rottie - it seems to be very prevalent from the many DNA test results I've seen!

How interesting! It seems nearly everyone guessed Giant Schnauzer, but that other parent was elusive! A Golden and Rottie never crossed my mind.

That Embark test sounds really cool. I'd love to get it for our pooch, but can't really afford that now.

The "hidden rottie" part is funny, because I can really see it in his temperament. He's got that amiable machismo I associate with Rottweilers, haha. (Also, his head is very round.) Rotties get around, apparently.

I'd have thought wolfhound, too, except that they're so rare around here. That was actually why I was guessing newfie instead of Giant Schnauzer, too, even though he's undeniably schnauzery...there are no Giant Schnauzer breeders in Alaska. Makes me wonder where he came from originally!

I took him to dog class for the first time and he was so good. I think we'll try for CGC this summer, might even think about TDI testing, as he's very friendly and mellow.
