Hello - My seven year-old Lab, Max, has had 4 different blood tests that all
show highly elevated enzyme levels in his liver. We've had two ultrasounds
(one at Auburn University Vet School) and a aspiration biopsy but all of the
tests show nothing. He is showing no symptoms of liver disease (ex. lack
of appitite, frequent urination, jaundice...etc.) but the vet now wants to
do a evasive biopsy which will require surgery and Max to be hospitalized for
several days. I hate to put Max through all of that for no reason. Has anyone else gone through this? Any info. would be helpful.

Thanks.

My dog Lola has some form of liver damage and has had barely any symptoms; aside from jaundice and itchiness from the elevated bilirubin. She also had a decreased appetite for several weeks but she always would eat just not her normal amount. She NEVER had any other symptoms and we believe she has had some major liver damage because she her bloodwork is still out of whack 7.5 months later.

We had a liver biopsy done on her and numerous ultrasounds and nothing came back wrong. So even with those tests we still didnt know what the heck is the matter with her.

I would still get the biopsy done if your vet thinks its a good idea and if you think its necessary get a second opinion.
