My 1 year old german shepherd had surgery on the top of her head and has been in an e collar for 4 weeks. The collar comes off this Saturday. Just tonight we noticed that she is keeping her ears down and they feel swollen. They look a little red inside. Her ears seem to be causing her some discomfort as well. Could this be from the collar? She runs into things a lot from being disoriented with the collar.

Call your vet and explain to them about her having problems with her ears. Tell them that you suspect that the e-collar is rubbing. They may want to see her earlier and have you remove the e-collar sooner.

I took her in this morning. They think she is having an allergic reaction so they gave her a cortisone shot and prednisone tablets for the next week or so. Hopefully this will take care of it.
