So yesterday my dog was having some behavior problems. Wouldn't "turn off play mode". I kinda just chocked it up to her being a 6 mo. pup and being a brat. Anyway, this morning she's puking, eyes are slits, slow moving, laying down a lot. I thought maybe she got sick from the pears in the orchard. Then yesterday's shenanigans made possible sense, maybe she was drunk off the half rotten drop pears?

Is that possible? Is my doggy experiencing a hangover?

Fermenting fruit can definitely cause ethanol poisoning, so I'd definitely give your vet a ring. Dogs are way more sensitive to alcohol in general than we are, so I wouldn't be comfortable assuming that it'll just pass like a hangover would until I clear it with a veterinary professional.

Sounds legit. The way she was last night, belligerent, and then obedient like always this morning along with the vomiting and then the seeming fine within a couple hours after a bath and lots of water... I'll give the vet a call, but seems like the pooch was wasted. Now time to consider cutting down the orchard

I have a pear tree in my backyard. Actually two because you need a male and female tree to produce fruit. Anyway, I have to pick up the pears everyday. I think it's pretty cool to have pears grow on a tree in the backyard, so I'll pick up the rotten ones...
If I leave them they will be covered in wasps anyway.

I let my pup eat a bit of pear, he likes to carry them around and play with them like they are a ball, but I supervise and make sure he is not eating the core or seeds or rotten fruit because those are toxic as well.

Yep, doggie was drunk. She's back to 100% and just like any hangover, once she got rehydrate the appetite came back with a vengeance. I'll have to make it a daily chore to pick up drop pears. The doggies don't seem to care about the apples though. Just pears.

Glad to hear she's back to normal! We have a plum tree that we have to clean up after, both for the rotting fruit, the risk of stones (they're small plums, so small stones, but the dogs are small too so I don't want to risk a blockage), and the wasps they attract. It's a bit of a pain but worth it to not have to worry so much.

We have apple trees too haha! I think the pears are sweeter. They don't attract as many wasps either.

Yeah I pick them up once or twice a day, I have to watch my pup because he wants to mess with the wasps. He chases and eats bugs, but I'm trying to teach him to leave the bees!

Current issue is, even though I raked up all I could into the tractor bucket, the slime is there and they keep eating and rolling in it. Urgh

If you go out everyday, there won't be as much slime. I pick them up by hand by the stem, pear stems are very strong. I know some pear mush stays, but it's safer than your dog being stung, getting drunk or eating seeds and core. It's a PITA to go out everyday but worth it.
