I usally don't see loose dogs in my neighborhood.Twice this week I have seen two dogs roaming around.I believe these dogs were male,my dog is a female.I guess it's time to get my dog spayed, even tho I haven't seen her in heat.I've had males ever since I lived here.Do you think that my dog attarcts them here? She's only 4 1/2 months old.She may be big enough, but she's not old enough to send out any signals,at least I think.

How big is she? Some small dogs will go into heat at 4 months. Keep a VERY close eye on her to protect her from the boys. If she's larger, probably she's not in heat. But still be careful.

Once I picked up a stray that started bleeding 3 days after we took her in. Ugh! There were all kinds of males "just wandering by" for 3 weeks! One yellow Lab was around every day. Fortunately we got through it without any mishaps.

Doubtful she's in heat that young, but it has happened before.
Lily just had her first heat at 13 months old, and we have a little Chihuahua suitor that just won't go away (he lives across the street) since his owners don't take care of him, he's always left running in the street.

Well since he's taking up residence in my front yard, I put out a bowl of food for him, at least he's getting fed. Lucky enough for me he's not getting near her since I supervise any outside time she gets.

She's about 45 lbs right now,on her way to 85-90 when she's full grown. I plan to get her spayed as soon as possible, within a cople of weeks.

Last time Smalls went into heat (she's fixed, now) the amount of loose dogs that showed up at the back of our fence was uncanny. Couldn't blame them, but I'd like to strangle the owners. Smalls is a notorious fence fighter and I couldn't even let her into our own yard. Our new house and giant privacy fence is awesome.

Callie went into heat at 6 months (two weeks before her scheduled spay), and she's just a small 30 pounder. It was nasty... I don't think I could ever handle NOT spaying a dog due to the dog-period blood. lol

Please, until you get her spayed, do the responsible thing and do NOT leave her in your yard unattended. She should be allowed out only if she is on leash with you. You said you plan to have her spayed "in a couple weeks". Do you have an appointment? If not, make one as you don't know for sure the vet can get her in in two weeks.
