Just wonder if there are any good options for dog tags that you can write on?

If your dog is being cared for at someone else's house while you're out of town, it'd be nice to have the caretaker's contact on the collar instead of your phone number and address. Especially if you won't be available to take calls if the dog gets lost.

I've seen tags with QR codes or a website code where you can update your contact info, but I also don't like the idea of a company having control of the info and forcing whoever finds your dog to enter an email address or register just so they can tell you they found your dog.

Any good solutions for durable tags that you can customize quickly?

Believe it or not, the best suggestion I have is Shrinkable plastic. Cut the plastic about 50% larger than you want the finished product, write the pertinent info on it, cut a hole for the ring, and bake. You're good to go, and it's CHEAP! You can do many per page of plastic.

Edited: the link I posted was auto-censored! It's a guy's name, just remove the spaces" www.d i c k blick.com/products/grafix-shrink-films/

If your dog is staying somewhere for a couple of weeks you could just put a sticker on the tag with the info on it and peel it off when you get home. Also there are little key rings for identifying your keys you could use.

I get one at one of the in-store kiosks in PetSmart or PetCo that say something like... "Guest at xxx-xxx-xxxx". I do that when my pets are traveling with me, too, if I know where I will be staying ahead of time.

My tags are good quality and only a couple of dollars so I make one for where we are staying. I kept the tags from the last place we lived as we still frequent that area (and no one has bought our house) and I have ones for my parent's house.
I even have a medical alert tag (it is actually a tag meant for dogs not one meant for humans) on Sierra due to her allergies. The sky is the limit.

PetHub makes these tags that have a QR (or whatever) square that can be scanned with a smart phone. I have one of them and if I was going to go on vacation I would simply change the information on the website for while I was gone.

We used to pet our vet's number on our tags and would tell the vet when we are going out of town. We would also tell them if an emergency occurs the person watching our dog can bring them in. If it is a major surgery though we are to be contacted. My dogs are watched by family members though and I live in such a small town people know my dogs. I can be walking down the road and someone will say hi to me and my dogs (by name) and I wouldn't know who they are, lol. I just smile, wave and walk away.
