This happened on two occasions (within 12 days). Took him to the first time, and taking him today as soon as the vet opens. Details below:

Dog: Frengle 6.5 yrs old, very loving, never scared, no issue with appetite.

On January 26th, 2020 (12 days ago): Weird yelp 4 times in 1 day.
  • for the first time, while walking out he suddenly did a quick small yelp(like the one u hear when u accidentally step on their paw) i looked around I thought he stepped on something but nothing.
  • 2hrs Later at home, playing and running with a ball and as he tries to grab the ball for the 3rd time he did another tiny yelp and backs away as if scared.
  • 3rd/4th time at dinner while passing him a tiny piece of chicken.
Vet was already closed, so googled my night until I thought it could be dental or joint pain. Took him to the vet next day, checked on his tooth, just the usual tartar that needs cleaning but nothing indicating pain. Joint movement also ok by vet. So I left with nothing but a scare.
Remaining days, he was back to normal.. food, playing .. nothing odd.

Today, February 6th, 2020: Afraid of eating from bowl or from ground... 1 tick!!!

I went home on my lunch break, when i put his food ..he was backing away from it.. afraid and looking guilty! I kept getting closer with the bowl saying its ok and he just walks away turning around afraid. Took a few pieces by hand, fed him, he ate some but still looked afraid. I thought stomach pain.. got some yogurt in a bowl he ate that away. My lunch came, and wanted to test out giving him pieces ..he LOVES human food. put a small piece of chicken on the ground.. same actions scared (NEVER does that happen). If i feed by hand, he takes it but still so scared. In one of the bites, i heard that ALMOST small whine/wince from 12 days ago.

Later on, sat on my stomach (both of us) face to face, gave him a small stick treat he loves. I'm upclose caressing him.. AND OUT OF NOWWWWHERE this tiny tick comes crawling from the top of his head!! I'm so confused.. my dog is short haired.. Im with him 24/7 non stop (except during work) I would have noticed a tick their. The tick wasnt attached, just crawling, so grabbed it slowly with a tissue.squished it.wrapped & flushed it. I checked for marking all over his body..nothing. I used a thin brush, brushed all his body to look for any, between paws, ..none.

The vet doesnt open until 2 hours. Im going crazy and panickinggg especially that im traveling after midnight.

Will update below once I see the vet ! hopefully!!

Was the tick engorged?

Pet the dog all over with your bare hands. Inspect any bump or lump you find. I suspect he may have another tick. Although, I doubt the tick has much to do with the yelping. Yelps are typically a response to a sudden pain.

It wasn’t engorged, it was crawling on the tip of his scalp.

When i came back home to take him to the vet. I greeted him the usual, pat on the back softly but he yelped loud (first time ever!)

The vet couldn’t do anything, because needs to be fasting for blood test. He only gave him advantix and measure his temp which was 37c normal. The weird part is when he inserted the temp from the butt my dog yelppped soooo loud and he never did that when measuring in the past hes always ok with it.

He massaged his back to see if it was back pain, no reaction from the dog no yelp. But he said he would need xray and he wasnt free .. and im traveling tonight!

I thought maybe back injury since he doesnt pick up food/treats from bowl or ground level.. only when fed. But monitored his posture, no crouching.. normal stance just a GUILT look. He walked up the stairs ok. I really dont know and im breaking down
