I have a tank of african cichlids, Saturday night my fish was sick so i put him in a 10 Gallon hospital tank to admin meds to him, i did cover the tank because i was exhausted and it was in my basement i just wanted to go to bed...

so i go to bed, about 6am my puppy starts going nuts, he sleeps on his bed in my room which was right under my hospital tank...so i assume hes got to go outside, i get up and he runs away from his bed and starts to act really weird, I figured i would check on my tank and the fish is not there!!! at that point i am in half asleep panic i look around the tank more then my puppy comes over to me and starts smelling and barking under the stand the tank was on and there was my fish, took me about 10 seconds to register i grab him at this point hes pretty dry i put him back in the tank worried hes half dead he goes right in and starts swimming around....

so i put the top on and when i got up this morning he was ok, THANK GOD!!!!

A lot of cichlids are tough. I had a convict once that refused to die. I was moving and dropped the bag I had him in. It busted and half the water dumped out. The fish was fine. Later, after I had him in another bag, I laid him down and accidentally dropped a 5g aquarium on him. He still survived. Then I put him back in the tank and forgot to de-chlorinate the water. He didn't care. That fish just did not comprehend that his owner was distracted and incompetent that day.
