It sounds fine. I wouldn't worry about the play. If the kitten is good-tempered, you could even clip its claws for extra peace of mind. Pet stores sell little cat nail clippers that work well, and cat claws are easy to clip; just clip off the sharp tip.
If it's a stray cat, I'd worry more about pests/disease than anything. Did you/can you take it in to the vet? I'd get a dewormer and some flea prevention meds (not all the brands that are safe for dogs are safe for cats), and at least its initial few sets of vaccinations.
