Dog occasionally makes gagging sounds, swallows, coughs?

We have a 10 month old Golden Retriever. He seems to be otherwise fine (not lethargic or withdrawn etc.). But he occasionally gets up from lying down and makes these gagging sounds, swallows repeatedly and sort of clears his throat (hard).

Opinions, experiences?

From what i beleive its normal for a dog to do this as they are closer to the ground then we are and more particles get in their lungs and mouth then they would us...hes just clearing his through as we would with a cough...this is just what i have read hopefully some one else could shed more insight then i can.
Sounds like kennel cough or reverse sneezing which could be brought on by allergies.

Personally, I'd see a vet in either case to make sure what you're dealing with.
Interesting , I have never seen reverse sneezing before but can now say my dog that same thing from time to time. Almost looks like he's gagging for a few seconds. Thanks for posting that .
