My 18 month old sheltie usually wolfs down his food the second I put it out for him. (Canidae ALS) Now over the last 3 weeks or so, he doesnt seem too interested in his food. He'll eat some, and then lay down, and then go back to it. He doesnt eat it all in one standing anymore.

Is this just him maturing? Or should I get another brand to mix in with it to get him interested again?

With dogs his age should I continue to feed him, and whatever he doesnt eat take away from him after a certain amount of time?

He does not eat human food at all- we have never allowed it.

Any suggestions?

A sudden and dramatic change in appetite is one of several things that will send me to the vet. The vet may say that there is no medical cause for the change, and that would be reassuring.

But that's the first thing I'd check.

I would have him vet checked also. But it is possible, if you've been feeding him extra during the adolescent growth period, that he just doesn't need as much food now.

I had a similar issue with my little pup.

Some vital questions that the vet will ask:

1) Has he lost any weight?
2) Is he still drinking and urinating?
3) Have you seen a drastic drop in energy levels?

If the answer to any of these is yes then I suggest going to the vet.

Visiting www.wellvet.com can also answer a lot of questions.

I've recently had a similar issue and I've just switched to Lotus. Its a baked product and both my pups seem to love it at the moment.
