My 5 yr old Min Pin has allergies but she has been licking her feet non stop.
The vet had her on Pred. twice a day for a week plus antibotics. She was fine and had stopped licking her feet until she was taking off the pred. We tapered her off the pred. it was 10mg tablets. We are at our wits end on what to do. she is on a salmon dry food, which we have changed with no help. We wandered if it could be nerves that are causing this. She started doing this after our old Min Pin died and she came into her first heat within 2 weeks of each other. We have had her tested for allergies and she does have allergies. The vet is not sure what else to do. Can anyone help.

There are other antihistamines out there that you could try. Talk to your vet about it. If he/she knows what the dog is allergic to there are shots for that in some cases. There are foods that might be helpful (Grain free for dogs allergic to grain, alternate protein source food for dogs allergic to chicken, beef or lamb, foods free of artificial food colorings, etc.)

If the dog is allergic to certain grasses, avoid grassy areas, and wash paws off when coming inside.

What dog food is she on?

What other medications is she on?

It's possible she's being obsessive about licking her feet. YOu might try using an E collar.

Have you tried a specialist?
