I would like to learn how to groom my Scottie puppy myself, but I have absolutely no experience with clipping or stripping dogs. I frequently see posters here advise people to have a knowledgeable person demonstrate, but I don't know anyone to ask. Are there some dog groomers out there that offer instructional services? Similar to the way many trainers are actually teaching the owners how to train their own dogs, I am looking for a groomer to teach me how to groom my own dog. Do groomers ever do that sort of thing (for a fee, of course)? Or would they think I was nuts if I asked?

You could see if there are any Scottie show breeders near you that you could ask to teach you. They would be the most experienced about the breed clip, after all. =)

You could check with local groomers, who may offer to teach you for a fee. There are also instructional DVDs. I frequented a groomer's board and learned a LOT, plus they had pictures, and discussions about all the different tools needed, for each particular breed. I groom my Standard Poodles myself, now, and went from looking pretty ok to wow, as good as when I used a professional (IMO) after getting a really fabulous DVD.

Good luck!
