Hi!
We just introduced a new malinois puppy to our home, that already had a 5 year old malinois mix in it. We took things very carefully for introducing them, and they get along pretty well!

They play together very sweetly in the living room and on the grass in front or our house, but in the back garden for some reason, our older dog remains on the terrace and doesn't want to play with his ball , with us, with the puppy or anything. He just stands there awkwardly.. we have no idea how to solve this?

Thanks for feedback and tips!

Take turns. Put the puppy in, play with the adult in the garden. Then put the adult in and play with the puppy. Then see if both will play. It sounds like one of those things that will work itself out. They're not hurting each other...quite the opposite. I would just make sure that your adult gets a bit of dedicated one on one time with you in the garden.

Awh <3 Litttle baby maligator.

Second what lillith said, dogs can get territorial about some of the oddest (to us, anyways) places. The garden is probably not only a potty place, but the place where you play with him/her and now they have to share with a puppy. They will get used to having eachother around in every part of the house eventually.
