I know I'm asking a lot of health questions, but I've never owned a large to giant dog before. We've always used blue wilderness for all our small to medium dogs, and it wasn't too expensive because they didn't eat as much as Nala does. We had her on that for a while, that's what she was on before we got her, but we're needing to switch her to a less expensive brand. I've heard a lot of good things about Nutro, what do you think of this dog food? And do the feeding guidelines look right?

I was just at the pet store and there happened to be a Nutro rep there. I was talking with her about some of their newer formulations. Nutro Ultra looks pretty good and has four stars out of five on one of the review sites. That being said, I think there are less expensive alternatives which are also four stars, such as some of the Diamond products (Premium Edge, Diamond Naturals, Chicken Soup).

Thanks, I'll check those out! :)

I use Orijen large puppy food. Check it out, it's biological food with no additives :)

We used Solid Gold for years, currently (last 4 years or so ) used the WOlf King formula (its Bison based) and have our new Bernese Mt dog pup on the large breed puppy formula "Wolf Cub". Really like the brand-- I have a Boxer that will be turning 13 this summer who has been on this formula/ brand for at least the last 10 years....
On the other hand my good friend swears by Wellness (she has Pit Bulls) and I do hear good things about it, and both brands are tried and true, vs a newer formula of Nutro that has not been out that long.... Just my 3 cents....

I see that several of you feed Diamond foods. Please pay attention to the recalls that seem to be coming out daily. Some varieties of the following Diamond Foods have been recalled: Diamond, Natural Balance, Wellness, and Taste of the Wild. Not all varieties have been recalled, but some have been.

Some good foods that are not made by Diamond Foods: Acana, Orijen (great, but too rich for some housepets), Blue Buffalo, and Earthborn. I'm sure others will chime in with their non-Diamond favorites.

I also feed Solid Gold--Sun Dancer variety. My dog almost immediately got a nicer coat and all the other good benefits from good food upon making the switch. Love it! I pay $33 for a 40 lb bag at Petco.
