Dog ears not standing straight

2198 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  BoxMeIn21
Hello I didn't know in which forum to put this so I figured this one was best. My dogs (puppy's ears were cropped) ears don't stand up straight. She's 4.5 months old I have followed breeders step by step on how to take care of them. Her ears are not infected and I have taped them as per his instructions 100%. Still, they still don't stand straight. I have used every method including the cutips inside the ear and taping them. What can I do? Anyone else with this issue?? Thank you

Dogo ,

If you could post a picture of the ear it would be helpful?

There are many folks here at DF that know quite a bit about cropped ears and you will get the advice you need soon.

Best , oldhounddog
Thank you I will as soon as I get home. I can't seem to upload one from my iPhone.
What breed of dog is this and what type of crop?
My Dobermans crop as soon as the tape came off and the stitches were coming out....I was told to put a little oil on them and massage them upwards for about ten minutes and at least a few times a day to encourage the cartilage to stiffen up? This was many years ago. But I had an extra nice show crop done and by doing this.....they were gorgeous! It may be different now......this was 30 years back.

Someone with recent crops should know something maybe better?

Dobermans with nice show crops can sometimes take up to 6 months to a year to stand correctly. Pet crops a little less time.

OP, I guess I missed the part that your pup is only 4.5 months old - regardless of the breed or the type of crop, if they are not standing, you need to continue to keep posting. Especially if your dog isn't done teething. I would say 6 months at the very least - some dogs just take longer than others. Be patient, nothing is worse than a nice crop that flops. Good luck.
