Hey everyone -- my doxie has been accident-free in the house for about a month now -- until today. I've actually only owned him 2 1/2 months!

He was downstairs and pooped twice -- very loose stoole. I then took him out a few hours later, to find another loose stool he produced outside.

What's the cause of this diarrhea? Nothing has changed in terms of diet or anything -- maybe he just eats bits and pieces of things on the ground and from outside?

Any solution, besides time?

He has had this before, but none lasted longer than a day.

And should I be worried about him reverting back to going bathroom in the house???

Maybe he's sick? If he's not better tomorrow, you should call your vet and describe the situation to him/her.

Accidents will happen. Some weeks will be better than others. Sometimes pooping in the house is a sign of stress or illness (even mild illness). We went through ups and downs all through the first year we had our pup. (we got her at 9weeks) Even changes in our routines (my partner and I have very sporatic schedules, and I tend to do some extended traveling) caused her to regress a little in her housebreaking. We got back on schedule after about 3 days.

Has your dog had any food that she might not otherwise have? This is important to let your vet know. We had a mild diarrhea problem right after we got back from my folks place for Thanksgiving. After being with my mom and dad spoiling her with people food for a week, she got diarrhea. We took her to the vet, and it was just all the turkey and chicken and table scraps she had been given.

There are lots of reasons dogs have loose stool. We also upgraded our food, but had to try and few foods before we got one that wasn't too rich for her. Look for blood in the stool. Also, look for worms in the stool. They are obvious. Maybe even save a sample to take to your vet.

Good luck!
