Dealing with Separation Anxiety in Dogs

If your dog seems to worry when you're heading out, destroys stuff when you leave the house, follows you from room to room when you're home, goes berserk when you come back and seems to be eyeing you suspiciously even before you leave—you may be dealing with a case of separation anxiety.

Dogs with separation anxiety exhibit distress and behavior problems when they're left alone. Some of the most common ways:

Digging and scratching at doors or windows attempting to reunite with their owners
Destructive chewing
Howling, barking and whining

The whole cannabis industry is a mess right now. I'd stay far, far away from CBD unless you are familiar with what's going on.

Both of my dogs are genetically predisposed to SA. Chocolate already has a bad case of it and that is why she needed to be rehomed. She doesn't destroy the house, but she cries loudly and is miserable. These are dogs that belong with a retired person or someone with a "take your dog to work" kind of job.

Chocolate may or may not do better being left with Laurel than she did with being left alone, but she could also become dangerous to the smaller dog. There are no easy solutions.
