Just wondering If any one has a puppy or mini-dachshund that has potty issues? She also has thinning fur all over her body (neck/top of head back legs & tail) She is 7mths old and still can't seem to go an hour without the need to go pee and she also poo's alot too! She also doesn't mind laying in her own urine in her crate, I can't leave blankets in it any more! I believe in feeding hollistic foods. Any ideas would be apreciated.

Dachsies are notoriously difficult to potty train, but her issues certainly don't sound like a potty training problem. Has she been to the vet? If so, what tests has your vet done? A full blood workup (make sure to ask to include a thyroid panel) would be a good idea. Her problems are definitely not normal.

The dog needs to see a vet. She could have a UTI or adrenal insufficiency.

Thanks for all your responses, I have taken her to the vet before her spay surgery and brought this stuff up to her, she was very thorough but didn't have anything to say about the hair thinning. I mentioned the word thyroid and she didn't say anything about it. She said that she is "marking" from what i've told her about the peeing.. though i was surprised to here that ,I thought only males mark. When my husband took her in to get the stiches out he mentioned again about the tail hair thinning and he said she just said stress after surgery. I've changed her diet to sweet potato and venison and am hoping for the best....

my mini dachshund was almost 1year old before she could hold it for more than 5hrs. she now 1yrs and 8 months old and can hold it for 9+hours while kenneled.

Don't give up just keep trying.

My friend had told me (after i got my dachie) her mom had to get rid of her young dachshund because of her peeing everywhere too:( I know my girl can hold it when I put her dish away at six at night and she (yes I'll admit it) can sleep in my bed and no accidents:) It might be because she attacks her food and water dish I've never had a dog eat so fast and drink. It get's really tricky when you have another dog in the house who is completely the opposite (tiny toy poodle) and needs the water dish left out or i would be putting it away more. I have to figure out how to post some pics in the pic forum .
