So after waiting almost 3 months, I have finally discovered that my dog has a disease called cricopharyngeal dysphagia. The inability is swallow.
She cannot drink large amounts of water without choking, coughing and hacking. Long story short. Surgery to correct this is 10-20% success rate, and is extremely expensive. A feeding tube from her throat or directly to her stomach. Managing this would be to only feed her wet food and add some water to it to ensure she is properly hydrated. I just bought thicken it. It thickens water so she does choke. So far she has taken a liking to this.
My question, because this disease is extremely rare, is there anyone that has a dog with dysphagia? If so, what did you do? How do you manage it and how old is your dog now? Please share your story.
I am hoping that my puppy who is only 8 months, can live a somewhat long and healthy life.
Thank you for your time! xo
