My rescue dog is being treated for heartworms and the vet informs me that he must be crated for 4 weeks to rest (as in no elevated heartrate.) This dog hates the crate and won't go into it. Has anyone else faced this issue and what can be done instead?

How about a puppy pen or using a baby gate to confine him to a small area, like a laundry room or bathroom? Tethering him to you or a sturdy piece of furniture might be another option for when you are home with him.

I thought about the small bathroom, but didn't think about the gate. Thank you.

As long as he's not a gate jumper, that's probably going to be the best solution.
