I'm planning on getting a lab pup and crate training him. My plan is to take him to work and let him out every 2-3 hrs for the first couple weeks. At some point though, I plan on leaving him at home. When should this happen? My plan for this was to put him in a pen either in the garage or in the backyard. I'm wondering what will be better, the garage or backyard? If I put him in the garage, my plan is to buy a piece of sod for home depot to do his business. If I leave him in the backyard, he would be doing his business on the lawn. thanks

Firstly, I'd say read these two FREE downloadable books... http://www.dogstardaily.com/free-downloads They have absolutely great advice on crate training! ;)

How old will your Lab puppy be? You will most likely end up letting your pup out a lot more often than every 2-3 hours, as young pups just aren't developed enough to know when they need to "go". And as for the question about leaving your puppy at home, how long would the pup be at home alone? I think it really depends on the individual pup(how long they can hold their bladder), and how long you'll be gone.

Best of luck :)
