I just got a new beagle last Friday. He’s about a year and a half and came from a family who couldn’t train him. They said he chewed things a lot, but so far I haven’t seen that behavior other than him finding bits of paper trash left on the floor under the couch or something. Not too big of a deal. He’s been extremely receptive to training already, totally eager to learn. The problem now is on the weekdays I have work and afraid of the possibility of him chewing and ruining things I put him in the crate with a kong filled with yummy treats, but I have roommates who leave after me and they’ve complained that he starts howling after about 10-15mins of me leaving. Is there a way to stop this behavior or what’s the best approach to crating him when people are still home? I wonder if he’s confused as why he’s in the crate when other people are there or if he’s anxious I’m not there.

Have you tried to cover a crate with a blanket? Does your pup have access to its stuff in the crate? What about water? It is matter.
