My puppy is 9 weeks old and has no problem going into the crate. I give him a treat he loves and runs straight in it. He will eat his treat and then go to sleep and typically is fine with no crying or whining as I leave the room. The issue is when he wakes up an hour later. He will start barking, crying, howling etc. I have a baby camera on him so I can see what he does and if he's crying when I'm out of the house. He's cried for over an hour without stopping once. Currently he's been going for 30 minutes. He went potty before I put him in.
At nighttime he will stay in his crate without any whining or barking since I'm in the room sleeping close to the crate. He can hold it from 3-5 hours at night and when I take him out he will go potty and go right back in without issue and back to sleep.
Any suggestions for what to do? Is it just something that takes time? After an hour of crying I sometimes need to take him out but I don't want him to learn that crying will get him out. I try to wait for him to calm down for a minute and go get him but I'm not sure if there is a better solution.
Thanks!
