We are going to get a new puppy. She will either be an english mastiff (which we are familiar with) or we are considering a mixed English mastiff and Bloodhound puppy. We know a lot about the mastiffs, but not a lot about bloodhounds. We live on acreage (12.5) and it wil;l have free roam. Is there anything we need to know possibly about this mix or the bloodhound portion that we should be concerned about. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

With a mix there is no way to guarantee what the puppy will be like. He could act like a mastiff, a bloodhound, or some combination. Look into bloodhounds and read up on them. Just remember that you really will have no idea how he will turn out. Good luck!!

if the bloodhound mix take after the bloodhound, and you allow him free roam chances are you will never see him again. because hounds have a tendancy to follow their noses to the ends of the earth
Totally agree. I have a basset and there are times on walks when he gets distracted by some scent and simply ignores me even though I'm holding the leash. You can't let a bloodhound roam free unless you don't want him anymore.
