Hi there,

I'm currently on the look to find a perfect puppy and last night I went to look at a litter of Lab/Shepherd puppies. When I got there the lady told me she also had another litter of Terrier/Shepherd, alarm bell #1. I asked her why she had two different litters, and she said she was "given these litters to find homes for". So then she gives me the puppy I had inquired about and right away I noticed that this pup is way too small to be 8 weeks old. The I noticed her belly was really big and swollen, so I asked if she had been de-wormed and she said no...surprise. So then I continue to pet her and noticed she had these bumps all over her body, mainly around her neck and chest. I thought it would be smart to see if the other puppies had it, and it yep both litters have the bumps.

Needless to say I did not take this puppy and I don't want to bring a potentially tick covered pup into my home where my cat is. I told the lady though that I'd try and help her out by finding out what these pups could have, ticks? Fleas? She doesn't want to invest money in these pups by taking them to the vet.....rolls eyes...

Any idea what these pups have? How can I help this lady out? Or should I even? She clearly is just in it to make money, but my heart goes out to these pups.

If you think the pups are being neglected, you should contact your local Humane Society or Animal Control (or whoever handles neglect cases in your area). This would be the kindest thing you could do for them. Refusing to seek medical attention for an animal in need of it is a criminal act.

If the bumps were ticks, it should have been fairly obvious. Ticks look like ticks, not like anything else. Like fat bugs sticking out of the dog's skin. If the bumps were more red and rash-like, they may have been caused by fleas, or by chemicals used in the area.

This really is a bad situation....the more I think about it, the more I think you should call the proper animal agency to take care of it.
I would report her to animal control for neglect. Poor puppies. Being covered in ticks is really dangerous.

I was just going to suggest that. Definitely turn her in. Not to mention, if she doesn't have the parents, it's a cause for a big alarm. Even the most professional people can be criminals. For the sake of the health and well-being of the animals, take action. Please.
Call AC and turn her in, the AC will seize the pups and get them the proper medical attention.
Thanks for all the advice guys, I just got off the phone with cruelty line from Animal Control and they said they were going to attend the scene. I told them I was certain their younger then she says they are, their bellies are really swollen, and that they were all covered in little bumps. I'm praying they take the pups so they get proper medical attention.
Please let us know the end result after animal control comes out. I can't believe that woman can't spend a few bucks to find out what is wrong with the puppies. Sure, she'll gladly take YOUR money and let YOU worry about the vet bills! She needs to be slapped with a big fat fine along with animal cruelty and anything else that the authorities find.
Poor pups, but some advice for you..

Alarm number one should have been mix breed breeder..you need to do some more research about reputable breeders. No person who breeds two different breeds together is a reputable, responsible breeder.

People who do that are called BYB's and just want to make money, they don't breed for sound temperament or health, so they really don't care if you get a puppy that is sick, nervous, or has genetic defects.

Best stick to shelters and save a life, rather than line someones pockets.
