Z has a nylon collar, and it rubs her neck almost bald sometimes, same for her nylon harness. I've heard leather is better, but because of our all-weather outings and frequent trips to play in snow or go swimming, I don't think real leather is a choice. (I do like the look and feel of leather though)
One leather alternative I've been told about that I like the idea of is biothane, but I've never seen it in person. I like that it's waterproof and such, but does anyone know if it truly feels like leather, and if it will be gentler on her skin and fur than nylon? Also, will the belt-style buckle it comes with be better for her fur/skin than a plastic buckle since only the collar material touches her skin, and not any hard plastic?
Is there anything else I can do in addition to a new collar that will help her fur and skin? She only wears her collar when walking off property or when off-leash, but that's pretty often since I'm working from home.
