My Mom has a long coat Chihuahua. He is neutered male, almost two years old, and in excellent health. He is the sweetest little guy, and very smart. She is a retired widow, so her little baby is pretty much with her 24/7. He is fed high quality food each morning and has access to that bowl of food all day. He has way more toys than any little dog needs

Unfortunately, he has the bad habit of bringing his poop up to the back step, on the sidewalk or patio etc. Last week he managed to sneak it into her house. As a puppy he would eat it, but now it seems more like he likes bringing back a souvenir, like a cat bringing home a dead mouse.

She tried Forbid with no luck. Any reason to believe Deter would work better?

Any suggestions would be great, because he is an affectionate little guy with a bad habit, and his uncle doesn't want any more kisses until he is cured!

Pick the poop up as soon as it comes out, problem solved.

Durb took the words right out of my mouth. Also, if the dog is on a leash or even just closely supervised when out in the yard, then it won't have a chance to pick up any poop that might be laying around.

While I would agree to pick it up right away, a retired widow might be less active than some of us younger folk, and rely on a pooper scooper service rather than all that bending over.

She should be able to at least watch him go in and out, and not let him bring it in. Maybe when he goes out, before he can come back in he has to bring a ball in with him. He can't carry poop and a ball, so in order to come in and get his reward of treats and affection, he has to pick the right one. Just an idea.

As a side note, the free-feeding is a bad idea, she should feed him twice a day and then remove the food.

They make pooper scoopers with long handles so you don't have to bend. Also if the dog is put on a feeding schedule he won't be going to the bathroom so much.

maybe you could remove the poo from the ground or wherever he leaves it until he stops or has to stop .
