Really, there could be an otherwise poor food, too high in fat, that might actually cut down on shedding, though there would be other possible problems.

Regardless, food affects nearly everything.

That's what I figured, I need to stop letting my wife buy the dog food. Any recommendations?

you could have a look in the food forum section. there are lots of suggestions there for food in all different price ranges. a good site to have a look at is http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/ it will give you a review of lots of foods and also rates the foods.

There are many reasons for shedding besides food...puppies lose their puppy fur for the adult coat around 1 year of age; females will blow their coat when coming into their cycle; other hormonal changes and the seasonal shedding.
Last tip: it's very dangerous to tell a wife that she might be wrong.
