I know there is a lot of bad press out there about breeding Merle Great Danes. I am wondering if there is someone out there expirenced in breeding a Merle to a specific color that will not produce double Merle pups.

Is your dog health tested, titled in comformation, comes from a good breeder, etc etc?

if not, please don't breed your dog. Merle is a fault in most GD standards.

Any GD that is Non-merle and carries for non-merle (you can find this out by tracing pedigrees) will not produce double merles.

As of January 1, 2019, merle, both solid and mantle pattern, are approved colors for AKC, UKC, and CKC (that's the Canadian KC, not Continental). It is not an approved FCI color.

Don't breed to another merle. Don't breed to a cryptic merle harlequin/merlequin.

Beyond that, this is a handy reference for deciding to breed.
