I think ive gone through about 4 different type of basic combs/brushes, and nothing seems to get at the loose hair and take it out. The slickers and nylon brushes dont get past the top coat, and the combs dont hold onto the hair to get it off him!

what would you guys suggest for the fuzzy guy?

A slicker brush and an undercoat rake. The undercoat rakes have double teeth, every other one is short and tall. Line brush with the slicker first, then go thru with the rake. Make sure the teeth are long enough to reach all the way to the skin though..some of these "newer" rakes are garbage because the teeth are barely 1/4 inch long..

Yep, undercoat rake. You can buy a good one from petedge.com. Make sure it's the larger one if you decide to buy from there. Also with a slicker brush, most people brush only the top coat. They need to be taught how to brush. You can brush a dog in any direction. Also lifting the coat helps. Brush the top, lift what you just brushed and brush underneath. :)
