Hello,

This is my firsts post.

We are looking for our first dog ever!

Today we had an encounter with a person walking their dog.

Her dog was a toy or tiny breed that I had never had the opportunity to see before.

I stopped and talked with her and played with her beautiful dog.

The breed was extremely calm, friendly and sweet.

I asked about the breed, and she told me it was a Mike' (pronounced Meekay).

She also told me that this breed is extremely calm and gentle and are often recommended for the elderly and disabled due to their calm and gentle demeanor.

I came home and searched for information that would help me learn more about this breed, and I can not find any information.

Would any kind souls in this forum have any knowledge about the breed I am describing?

I would be very grateful for any and all help.

Thank you,

Michael

You are describing the Mi Ki

I don't know much about them as little dogs are not my thing. But I did have one in a group basic obedience class I taught. It was a quiet gentle little dog.

I think what you are refering to is a Mi-ki..

They are a rare toy dog breed, and their temperment is supposed to be as you described.

They are basicaly just supposed to be a nice little dog, without the yippy, nippy, and annoying personalities that some of the small dogs like chihuahuas, yorkies, and a lot of toy breeds get.

But, the main reason toy breeds get that was is because people baby them because they are small, so if you were to baby a Mi-ki, it could probably become a little ankle biter too.

The main thing about getting a pure bred dog, especially a toy breed with a somewhat shorter face is finding a REPUTABLE breeder.

A reputable breeder will be quite expensive, but they wil health test their dogs, breed not only for the breed, but for a solid temperment.

Buying from a pet store, or someone selling them who doesn't health test, you could end up with an aggressive/nippy/yappy/sick/or geneticly flawed dog. Geneticaly flawed could mean having a dog that needs extensive surgery,is prone to cancer, etc..

Reputable breeders make sure they breed to extremely lessen the chances for genetic diseases.
