It will still be a while before I decide to get a dog, but it's something that has been on my mind quite a bit; I've lived with dogs my entire life so suddenly being in a place where I don't have one feels very, very strange, aha.
I'm in an apartment as well as an urban area, so I'd ideally like a friendly dog that isn't an intense barker; a bit of barking when someone knocks on the door is ok, but nothing excessive. As far as energy goes an off switch is a must. I can give around 1 hour of exercise a day, but would definitely be a weekend warrior type.
My ideal dog is small to small-medium because of apartment restrictions (might not be always living where I currently am, but I'd like that range for ease of finding another apartment anyway. More specifically, I'd like a dog that's from 10-20 pounds but I know that's kinda specific.)
My current pick at the moment would be a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, but it's kind of sad how it's simply a matter of when rather than if regarding heart issues.
Paps are another option but they're a bit smaller than I'd like, and they might be a bit on the higher end of what I'm looking for energy wise.
