I see this dog on all sorts of breed things and websites as both breeds.

Petsmart was also selling a chihuahua mug with this picture on it.
Aha here it is:

I've honestly looked at it so much I've confused myself. If it's a pap, the ears are small and head seems large in proportion to the body. But the expression doesn't seem chi to me and the ears are really rounded for a chi. I honestly don't know. You'd think I'd be able to pick out my own breed. Poor dog must be confused. ;)

I Googled " Long haired Chihuahuas photos " and that same dog 's picture is there amongst a bunch of other ones. That dog is listed as such???

Is is possible that the dog is a Pap/Chi mix? I do see traits of both breeds. There are certainly breeders with multiple small breeds and perhaps there was a mix up somewhere down the line. :p

I honestly think it is a Pap/Chi mix. The other pictures go on forever and there are a few that resemble this one ... but this particular one you posted pics of still has that Pap look IMO. The Chi I see in it is the apple head but barely that?

I lean more toward papillon when I look at that pic. This is the photographer, though, and if you search for chihuahua on his site, it's listed in there (on page 21 of the results). The only keywords for it are "long haired chihuahua," rather than the "two year old chihuahua" or "chihuahua puppy, two months old" that some of the others got, so who knows?

There are approximately 26 dog breeds. Now, for those of us that are dog lovers, it is pretty hard to mistake any of these breeds for each other. But for the majority of people they don't know much more than "this one is a big one, and this one is a small one", as far as identifying breeds. I urge each and every one of you to go check out http://calik9.com for dog breed on Dog training San Jose CA

Admittedly I don't know much about breeds, but 26? Aren't there a LOT more than that? The DNA tests are claiming to be able to identify "more than 180 breeds," for example. How is that possible if there are only 26?

your confused calik92..26 is the letters in the alphabet, there is more like 300 dog breeds :p

I am going to go with Chi X Pap for this dog, it looks like both, and people are breeding the 2 on purpose..the ones I have met look similer..like Chi's with Pap-like ears
