My SPoo puppy is here, and I'm totally in love with him. Well, when I'm not ready to strangle him, anyway. The little guy has aspirations of being an operatic heavy metal singer. He's also inquisitive, happy-go-lucky, has shown good resilience and recovery, and has been a trooper about housetraining in the pouring rain.

We got a bit of a break between deluges yesterday, and I was able to get some pictures. I think he wants to follow in his big sisters' pawprints, and be a parkour dog.

He's 12 weeks old as of yesterday. He weighed 14 pounds at the vet on Monday (both of us think he's a bit on the thin side at the moment), and the top of his head nearly reaches my knees. His sire is 26" tall, and his dam is 27", so I'm expecting him to in that range as well.

Wow. In my logical mind I know that body style makes a big difference in how much a dog weighs compared to his height, but it keeps right on surprising me when taller dogs weigh less than heavy boned shorties. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think getting one older like that is an advantage. Mine that came as older babies were such confident, easy going souls. I know that's a database of 2, but can't help feeling that way.

We finally a) got a break in the rain; and b) actually had time to take pictures, so here is today's photo dump (will be two posts, since it's more than will fit in one). Please excuse the fact the he desperately needs a good brushing and FFT trim. It's rained for probably ten of the fourteen days he's been home, and between that and car shopping, we haven't done much of anything.

And that's it. I'm still fighting with my camera some, but I'm glad it's cooperating as much as it is.

Leo is delighted to have a new playmate. Lily seems to think that if she could just ignore him hard enough, he will disappear. Simon is just having fun and learning how to dog.

Poodles definitely have a tendency towards that open-mouth smile! And very toothy play, which I also see, haha. He looks like a charming handful, and like he's settling in great!

Getting scruffy looking...

Then, between first the rain, and now the heat and humidity, I decided to heck with it, and took him down with a #10 blade into a Miami.

Lily isn't a fan....

Little brat was trying to steal my camera.

There is something in the grass.

Whatever could it be?

Hmm... that looks like... a paw?

Oh, hi Simon!. Yeah, I guess the grass did need to be cut...

This pretty much sums up the personality differences between Simon and Lily.

Having a discussion over dental care, maybe?

You'll have to imagine the "zoom" sound effects...

Finally getting a handle of that face! Yes, the hair around his nose is lighter that the fluff. Blues lighten as they get older.

I promise he has two eyes. He still moves around a lot, which makes scissoring.... complicated.

Have you ever read the cozy mysteries by Laurien Berenson that have poodle-owning school teacher Melanie Travis as the main character with her poodle breeder aunt as a main supporting character? They show the dogs and there are often descriptions of what they go through with washing, brushing, clipping and scissoring show dogs and also describe the more regular coats on the retired show dogs. Fun books.

I've read a bunch of them. I've got the earlier ones in paperback, but then she said she was quitting the series. I found out a couple of years ago that she had started back up, but I don't have all the newer ones.

I wondered when they stopped coming out what was up, thought maybe her publisher had quit on the series and when they started up again thought maybe she'd gone indie. Not indie at the prices that are on them though. I think I have them all, and my early ones are paper too, but for a long time now it's Kindle or nothing for me.
