I have a 4 yr old short legged, short haired JRT who is very rough with her coats. She heads out in the fields with me when I'm riding/exercising a friends horse and loves to get into the deep brush/weeds/water/etc. Can you recommend a very hardy coat that can withstand this onslaught while still keeping her warm enough during the fall and spring?

I do currently own a winter jacket that is nice and thick, but I need something lighter. For the past 3 yrs I've been using a simple fleece jacket I made for her, but shes completely totalled it this past year. Thanks!!

I have the Ruffwear K-9 Overcoat. I have the previous model, they changed the buckles a bit on the current one but nothing else appears to have changed as far as quality of anything. It is very water resistant and sturdy on the outside and has a thin fleece insulation on the inside.

I also bought a coat from Chick's Saddlery which was cheaper and cut like a horse blanket. I liked it and it seemed durable but it ran large and since I got the XL, it was too big even for Chester. Inexpensive enough though that if they have a size small enough for you, it could be a good purchase. I think the XL was $25 with shipping, smaller sizes maybe $20 with shipping.
