I want to build my new dog's toy box, but need some toy advice. Anything that squeaks is fair game. Unfortunately she has great skills when it comes to putting holes in stuffed toys, so I need some ideas as to what type/brand stuffed animals might be less destructible (she put holes in 3 cheapy stuffed items today alone). We have a rubber Cuz squeaky thing she loves, but after a week, she almost has the squeaker chewed out and the rubber is looking worn. I would have to call her a heavy chewer. Any brands really hold up long to a heavy chewer or do I just need to buy stock in her favorite toys?

Our favorites for our "piranha"

- Kongs (black are stronger than red) (http://www.amazon.com/KONG-Classic-Kong-Dog-Large/dp/B0002AR0I8/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1330560051&sr=8-6)
- Kong Wobbler (http://www.amazon.com/Kong-PW1-Wobbler-Dog-Toy/dp/B003ALMW0M/ref=sr_1_1?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1330560199&sr=1-1)
- Antlers - I order these off ebay.
- Everlasting Treat Ball (http://www.amazon.com/StarMark-Everlasting-Treat-Ball-Large/dp/B0012V1G0Y/ref=sr_1_1?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1330560226&sr=1-1)

I avoid anything made of thin rubber or plastic, squeakers, unsupervised ropes and stuffed toys. Destroyed too fast and dangerous if the dog eats a piece.

The Galileo by Nylabone. Yes, it looks offensive. http://www.finsandmorepets.com/product_images/j/816/nylabone_galileo__93151_zoom.jpg

A Jolly Ball with a rope going through it. Discard the rope as soon as it becomes damaged. The nice thing about this ball is that there is no handle for the dog to rip off. Our Pit Bull's Jolly ball -- now with just a hole through it -- has lasted over a year, longer than any other ball. http://www.allpetsconsidered.com/Portal/Images/products/large/1476.jpg

Also try bully sticks, deer antlers, and lawn mower tires as chew toys

goughnuts

I second kong. My old dog could pull apart stuffys in 5 seconds flat, but kongs held up just fine. And, you can wash them in the dishwasher.

Do any of the Kong toys squeak? She really likes things that squeak. She does not have unsupervised time with any of her toys care of her ability to destroy.
These:

Keep in mind a "kong" is generally defined as the strong rubber "first" kong (see my kong link above) - even though these are the toys the brand "kong" brand has expanded to. All the new toys kong has I would expect they would be high quality as their original however I haven't used their squeaker toys.

There are some really strong soft toys, but i think Fuzzy Pants has showed you them (i can't see the link) Holly had a kong wubba, and a kong on a rope, and a kong, but the kong is her least favourite, she has lots of other toys, i am lucky because she does not set out to destory any of her toys.

I have a heavy chewer as well and knew right from the get go that stuffed toys would not be for us! We have a red and black kong that we stuff and freeze. We also have a kong ball that she likes. Someone also mentioned the Everlasting Treat Ball which is made out of silicon. This keeps her entertained longer than the kong and she hasn't been able to destroy it. I also like antlers and Raw Bones! Those are by far her favorite!

I have the same problem with my westie. She loves the stuffed toys with squeakers the best but she disembowels them within a few days. We have bought the high quality ones with chew guard but they last about 2 extra days! Imknow kings are great but she likes the soft ones thatb she can shake the stuffing out of them. If there was a brand that did not rip apart I would love to know it!

I found a Kong that my other dogs rejected (they only like(d) ropes) and Grace has gone to town on it. I just don't know what size it is and it is the red variety. I have ordered a black Kong in medium and another Cuz in large. Maybe she won't be able to get her mouth around them as easily.

The Black Kong Toys have been the most durable so far.
Thick marrow bones last for a while...
Antlers are eaten like milk bones ..
and she pops tennis balls and chews them to pieces in seconds.

So it kinda depends on your dogs chewing skillz ..

Gosh I love Amazon Prime. I ordered the black Kong and Cuz yesterday and my dog was chewing on them this afternoon. Both seem favorable for my chewer, but the Cuz is going to have a short life as well. She has a hard time picking it up, but no problem chewing on the squeaker part.

I'll second the Goughnutz, Caeda is a STRONG chewer and her Goughnutz is lasting really well (and I like the idea of a guarantee!). The black ones are the strongest. They don't squeak though.
If your dog likes stuffies I usually go for the Mighty Dog Toys. There was a penguin that they used to have (that I can't seem to find now) that actually lasted months.....well....if you ignore that Caeda tore the feet off lol, but aside from that the stuffing stayed in it! I also sewed up the spot she got the stuffing out of and it lasted another month!. A lot of their stuff has squeakers in them too....which is awesome. Just watch for the ones that have skinny appendages though, those are really easy to chew off...we had the otter and it lasted two days :( I did an amputation and sewed it up though.....lasted a week after that.

It all really depends on the dog. My guy sets out to destroy toys as his entertainment. If they squeak he'll enjoy that for a short time then it's time to get serious and start the destruction (if I let him). I got him a toughie of the highest strength and did a lot of taking it away, giving it back (practicing 'drop it' mostly), taking it away again and throwing it to extend it's 'life.' Still only lasted about 3 cumulative hours with him before it had to be trashed for safety.

Really the only stuffed type toys that have a chance to last with him are the ones I don't allow him to gnaw on. I have a few we use for indoor fetch and he'll chew and squeak it as he's fetching but has to drop it in front of me or the game is over and the toy is put away. I recently got a kong wubba that is treated the same as the stuffed toys. He COULD chew the kong squeaking part to his hearts content but he'll only do that for a bit then start to gnaw with his back teeth on the fabric strips on the end. He managed to gnaw about a quarter of the way through two strips before I noticed he was doing so.

So far his Kong Squeezz is holding out really well but he's also mostly lost interest in it too. He had a blast and we played about 45 minutes straight fetch, tug, and just chewing on it when I first got it. Now he doesn't really care. But his Cuz is also still in good condition too.

If your dogs just like tough balls to chew on I have to recommend chuck-it ultra balls I got Jubel a set of two shortly after I got him and they have stood up to his chewing power for almost 2 years now.

I've heard good things about the goughnuts but I don't think Jubel would be interested in it for very long if at all so I haven't bothered to try it out myself.
