i dont know if this is the right place to post this.

Bear ate today for the first time in a couple days. I ended up mixing hamburger and rice with his dog food. I dont know what else to do to get him to eat. I tried the lil hamburger balls...yea right he wont touch them. He wont eat anything raw...wont touch his dog food not even if i put canned in it (he was eating it now he wont even touch it with canned in it).

He doesnt have worms as he has been dewormed. He is up to date on everything. There are no health issues regarding him eating. I think it just comes down to him being a brat, perhaps...a spoiled one at that? Do i just leave the food on the floor and when he is hungry he will eat it?:confused:

Any vet (and others here) will tell you when a dog gets hungry it will eat. Put his normal food down and leave it for 10-15 min. If he doesn't eat, take it up and don't give him ANYTHING until his next meal. Repeat as necessary. He will learn to eat.

One thing I have noticed about most of the small dogs I have is that they prefer the little bites over the regular size. Make sense?

How old is this dog?

If it is above 6 months of age, I would offer him food twice a day, inside a pen or a crate, and leave the food for 10 minutes.

If it is not eaten in 10 minutes, I would take up the food, and offer him half that amount the same way at the next meal.

If on the second offering he did not eat it, I would wait 24 hours before offering him food again.

Dogs can get very habituated to certain details while they are eating. In other words, some people unwittingly train their dogs not to eat.

Put the food down, leave him alone, and take it up if not eaten in 10 minutes.

this is what we do with our dogs. we didnt at first, but they were over eating and getting chubby. it only took them about 2 days to figure out that if they didnt eat then, the food would go buh bye!
but our husky, he will still sometimes only eat once a day, or sometimes every other day, and thats just him.

When I got Zero he was used to being free fed. (Brutus will eat anything that will stand still and somethings that won't as long as he can catch them.) I put the food down for him in the morning and ignored him for 10 minutes. He didn't eat and we repeated the process again at dinner time. Sure enough, he was chowing down the next day at breakfast.
