batman! stop peeing in the pet store!

just under a week ago my wife and I adopted an adorable Japanese Chin named batman from the shelter. he has been very well-behaved and is a fairly quick learner.

we want him to be used to all social situations but know he is still settling into his new home and routine.

Because he has shown very little anxiety from the moment he walked into our house, and seems like he is adjusting exceptionally well we decided to slowly start introducing him to new things like having people over for dinner (which he did very well except for jumping a little at first, but quit after a few corrections).

well my wife took him to the pet store the other day to pick up some stuff for him. He tried to pee every time she stopped to look at anything, and the end of most aisles. She did a really good job of watching him and he only managed to pee once.

I'm guessing he was reacting to the many dog scents. has anyone else experienced this and what is the best way to handle this?

Yes, it's because of all those dog scents and he wants to mark his territory. Cute name, btw. Luke is 3yrs old and is house broken and never pees anywhere....except when I walk into PetsMart. What I would do is, before going in, make sure Batman pees outside and praise him. Then go in and watch your dog like a hawk. If he attempts to go, pull him away and say "no". This is what I do and Luke is fine. Good luck.
Yeah timluc0428--don't worry, you're not the only one out there!! Batman and other dogs probably go into sensory overload with a place like that! Sometimes I don't catch Luke and he looks up to me smiling. Me, "Ah no! Luuuuke!!" Now to find the wipes. I see it all the time in pet stores, do not worry. :)
