A couple days ago, Banjo started bringing our shoes (and anything else she can find) into our bed and chewing them to shreds. She's always been more inclined to chew than Aurora, but never destructive. We bought her some really heavy duty raw hide bones. I know they're not good for them, but it's put a stop to this. She seems to need something that breaks down, and the nylabone didn't do that. She wasn't chewing on it as much as before. She's between the age of 1 and 3. Is it normal for dogs to all of a sudden have a uber-chewing stage at this age? Also, is there anything other than rawhide, is there something that breaks apart slowly as a dog chews it? I can't afford anything real expensive, at the moment.

Sudden chewing usually indicates teeth problems like plaque build-up. The lowest cost approach would be to brush her teeth daily and see if you notice less chewing.
