baby aspirin for arthritis

hey everyone, so recently my saint Bernard was diagnosed with arthritis in the hip. he was having a lot of trouble getting up on his own and was having a lot of pain. the vet prescribed him pain meds and another medicine to help the arthritis. the pain meds are really expensive bringing in his total monthly cost for medicine at close to $200 (he is also prescribed pills for incontinence) although I can afford this (not comfortable) it isnt really ideal, but I love my saint and will do what I have to. however a lot of my co-workers said when their dogs were having these same issues they gave them baby aspirin. is this okay for dogs? would this be a possible option fot his pain meds?
