Yes, as soon as I started researching 'cecum', I found out about the whipworm possiblity and spoke with my vet about it. He had already put her on medication for them, just in case. That's after X-rays (with barium), exploratory surgery and three days in the hospital.

We had a couple of red herrings in there that complicated things...the previous choking and then the invisible fence incident. Her problem could have been caused by so many things. He's still not sure what the problem is, but she's home now and appears to be on the Road to Wellville...she ate this morning for the first time in eight days!

As for your Husky, is the ligament partially torn or is it snapped in two? I would think that would influence how necessary surgery would be. At those prices, I'd for sure get some more opinions and estimates. As for the wonderful Alabama winters, well, it was 12 degrees the other morning! I think the current cold snap is on the way out, but it's been unseasonably frigid!

Hi Jude,

Yesterday I did a little research for the torn ligament. $2,200 for the suture procedure, a whopping $3,000 for the TPLO. The vet obviously underestimated. This specialist will only do the suture procedure if I insist because they really don't consider it the best long term solution. The worst of it is that the soonest I could get so much as a consultation appointment is January 3, with a suergery within days after - but that is a long time for Sean to hobble around. I suppose the consultation with be more specific about partial or complete tear. I have a feeling from the vet and her showing me the movement in the joint that it is a complete tear. Also, if the specialist doesn't see Sean until 4 weeks after the injury, he will probably want to take up-to-date xrays (more $$$) and there is the chance for arthritis to be worse if it isn't done sooner. Anyway, today I am going to contact another specialist in the area - that being anyplace I go is at least a two hour drive. Hope Sissy is feeling better! Regards, Erin
