I am curious if anyone can comment on how their dog's surgery went for a recessed vulva. We've been battling this issue for years, our dog is almost 10. Luckily she hasnt had UTIs recently, but her area is always red and looking icky. We are finally considering surgery (had been before the pandemic, but that kind of set us back). I worry with her age and whether it is worth doing now, but surely it being irritated daily can't feel good. We do have to use neopowder a couple times a month if it gets bad, otherwise daily wipes. We will meet for a surgical consult today but just looking for others experiences.

I never did but looked into it when I had a dog that had several UTIs as a puppy. Going through heats until she was 3 was the end of the UTI problem for her, so never did.

But, boy, if I'd lived with it until a dog was almost 10, I don't think I'd have the surgery done at that point, although maybe you have a small dog with a longer life expectancy. With my big dogs, if they make it to 10, I figure anything after is a gift.

I had a female GSD that was pre-heat spayed, so had a juvenile vulva. It was recessed and about age 2-3 she had an episioplasty surgery (sort of like a face lift of the other end!).

She did well after that but had issues when she got older (9-14 years old).
