I just was woundering when does there coat change? Right now my little man has beautiful straight hair but my sister has the same breed and her pup is curly. Im also scared to take him to the groomer this weekend because i am getting him cut short and am sacared that its going to grow back in curly.

well shitzus have straight hair and bichons have curly so your puppy will eather have curly or straight hair. you can't know for sure in a mix. It's not a breed because a breed looks the same for many generations. When you get a mix you get a surprise, so SURPRISE! lol

It would be much MORE surprising if the dog's coat grew back looking like a bison, though.
I agree lol

And yeah there's no way to know how your pup's coat will turn out, but cutting it won't change it. The only change cutting it can do is that if it's wavy but the length is heavy enough to make it appear straight, the shortened hair could show the wave more strongly.

It'll grow out again though, eventually.

I have a Shih-tzu x Bichon mix - I'm sure you didn't mean bison! :)

Until she was 10 months old, her hair was straight but after her adult coat came in, it's curly. Not kinky like a bichon's but curly. When I look at pictures of her when she was a puppy, I laugh because it looks hilarious! AT one point, her hair was so long (I like the long rock star look), she looked like she had bangs and the rest of the hair on her head was 'brushed' back - such an '80s look! That 10th month was hell, let me warn you, because the adult coat got so tangled with the old coat - I'd get rid of the mats and new ones would seem to grow. The cutting won't make the hair go curly but when her adult coat comes in, it may change. Just some advice, keep her coat short when she turns 10 months.

My pups a bichon x mini schnauzer and who knows what its going to be like! At the minute (11 weeks) its very fluffy, bit wavy and clumps together as soon as he shakes himself! Apparently (according to groomer) his coat is more like a bichon pups but i guess it could go totally the other way. I like surprises though :)

Yogi is our 14 week old Shih tzu/Bichon/Maltese mix. He has his first appt. with the groomer tomorrow. His fur is growing super fast! He has Bichon curly hair on the top of his head and on his legs. We need to brush him everyday or else he will get matted. He definitely has more Bichon characteristics in him when it comes to the fur!

I'm not sure when their coat changes, if at all! Good question!

We have quite a few bison farms out here. I wonder if this is a new breed.

I think we get the point...I think we all know the OP meant 'bichon'.

As I said in my previous post, their adult coat comes in around 10 months - give or take.
