my dog is a really finicky eater, hes been babied i admit that. i usually always feed him half a can to a can at like noon, (ive never been able to get him to eat in the morning) than at like 4pm my parents feed him boiled chicken at the table (i tell them not to but they say its just to keep him from getting hungry, they also hand feed it to him) and i usually feed him another can at about 9-10pm. but sometimes like today he just doesnt wanna eat. im thinkinking of trying the put out the food 20 mins later pick it up. and hell eat when hes hungry enough. question though is how long of refusing the food is normal? is it normal to refuse the food for a whole day? or even 2 days? i dont wanna make him starve too long if its useless. please if your advise get my dog to eat like a normal dog ill forever thank u, reps n everything.

I have a finicky eater, what works for me is feeding him when I sit down to eat. I place his bowl by my feet and mix in a little of whatever I'm having in his bowl.

I don't think it's normal to refuse food for 2 days but, test his appetite with a dog treat(something he loves)... if he eats it I wouldn't worry.

I never thought Max could only eat once a day but he can. Dogs are more gulpers than grazers. Maybe one meal a day would be better. Feed him at noon if that is when he eats best and then nothing until the next day. Then when your parents spoil him with that yummy chicken [not really a problem, chicken is good stuff] he will have plenty of time to get hungry for his next meal. And he won't be as hungry for the treats since he will have eaten more lunch. If he doesn't eat as much as the dog food label says and his condition is good then he is just an easy keeper.

My dog gulps her food too fast, so I've done some research on bloat. Everything I've read says don't feed a dog only once a day. I think this goes for any dog, whether they're gulping or being picky. It's just too much food in their stomach at once. Just be careful, especially at first when his stomach isn't used to being full.

Put down the food for 15 minutes, then take it away. If he's eating treats, it's not likely that he's suffering from any medical issues... he's just holding out for something better. Don't feed him anything -- no treats, no nothing -- in between meals, and don't spice up the food with any extras either. The ONLY chance he gets to eat is when that bowl goes down for 15 minutes. Two days is not long for a dog to go without food. If he continues to refuse food after four days, take him to the vet.
