I want to share with you a poem I wrote about our dogs and what they are like in the park...

All the dogs would go to the park,
hoping to meet their friends.
They’d call each other by way of bark,
and sniff each other’s rear ends.

They’d scour the ground for yesterday’s news,
to sense who’d been in their park.
Then they’d cover the ground with wees and poos,
to cover their smell with their marks.

New dogs would come over to check them out,
sometimes they were not happy.
The owners would run over and scream and shout,
in case their dog turned snappy.

They’d romp around in ponds and bogs,
until they were really smelly.
The humans would wade in to retrieve their dogs,
the mud squelching over their wellies.

Off they’d go after a squirrel or rat,
sticking their heads down a hole.
They didn’t mind how long they sat,
hoping to catch a mole.

They could smell who carried a lovely treat,
and would beg until they’d get one.
They’d be rewarded by the humans they’d meet,
then ran off to have more fun.

This was their favourite time of day,
the rest of it was quite boring.
Too soon it was time to end their play,
and go home for a sleep quietly snoring.
