Am I crazy?

So I was walking Rosie last night and I ran into a lab owner walking their dog. A lab owner. We started talking "how old, boy or girl, blah blah blah". Then she asked, "What breed is your dog?"

keep in mind this is my dog...

a lab owner asked me what breed she is.

so i said, "uhh...a lab."

and then i got, "oh, i thought she must have been part sharpei because her tail curls."

she then insisted that my dog is not pure lab because she has a curled tail.

part sharpei? now this isn't the first time i've gotten this, i've gotten chow, pug, pom, huskie, eskie etc.

yes her tail curls up, but its still a lab tail. It's an AKC imperfection, but shes still a full lab.

i know its stupid, but its kind of starting to get on my nerves a little bit!

lol.. Everybody always thinks Zoey is a Shih tzu.. though Shih tzu's and Lhasa's do look pretty much the same.. She's a Lhasa dammit!
I've been asked several times if my long haired dachshund is a spaniel mix.
Brigit has been mistaken for a chihuaha
And Cerbie has been called a dalmation a few times.

PPl just dont' know. Just laugh it off.

And, I also can't tell the difference between a shih tzu and a lhasa. Forgive my ignorance. I always ask though.
Ranger is a rat terrier and SO many people think he's a jack russel. Now, granted, they do look alike so I can forgive them. But I've actually had people argue with me about it! "Well, he's awfully big to be a rat terrier, isn't he?" (He's 20 pounds.) Thank goodness we don't have one of the 35 pound Decker rat terriers!

The funniest thing though is my sister has an Italian Spinone, which looks pretty similar to a German Wirehaired Pointer. She has been asked if he is everything from a lab to a sharpei.

People just have no idea what they're talking about half the time.
You wouldn't believe how many people ask me if Bella is a poodle  What the heck else would she be???? A min pin????

LOL. Well, Bella could be a BIG Min Pin... with a curly coat... and a surprisingly Poodle-ish overall apperance.

But I definitely see a lot of those idiots out there. My friend has a Irish Wolfhound, and one time we were going for a walk together, a couple stopped us and asked if he was a Great Dane x Poodle mix (a Great Doodle?), and then a lady we passed by started cooing "Aww, pretty doggy. I love Bearded Collies!" Bearded Collie? Well, we told her he was an Irish Wolfhound, and she blinked at us like we were idiots and said "Bearded Collies shouldn't be mixed with wolves."

I wont even get into how many people have told me that all 3 of my dogs are pitt bulls and that they should not be around my kids. Lady is a boxer, mastiff, and pitt bull mix but I think she looks almost nothing like a pitt and the other two are Boxer, lab, american bulldog mix. ( we did a doggy dna test on them since we were not sure what the dad was mixed with, mom is a pure boxer.) But most people will argue with me that Andromeda is a pure pitt bull and will turn on me and my kids. Did i mention that this dog is scared of her own shadow and will run away from even the smallest dog that is walking near her.:D
Just to show how insanely popular these designer dogs have become: I get asked all the time how old my "Puggle" is! UGH. She is a purebred PUG. Makes me madder then when people call her a boy!
Holly and J.C. are always called chihuahas. Sometimes I just go with it because it's easier than to explain what a papillon is.
You should've told her that you have a Pitt Bull. That way the next time she crosses your path, she'll be across the road.
Umm...pit bulls are wonderful around kids.

Oh, and there's one t.

They are referred to as the "nanny dog" because they are so good with kids.

Opps thanks thats what I get for typing when I have had 6 kids under the age of 7 in my house the last 3 days.

I thought about telling her that she was pure pit I know my stepson and hubby do. I do tell some people but not all the time, this lady causes trouble in the neighbor hood so I held my tounge.
your story made me laugh... i mean some dogs that are not as popular are hard to distinguish, but a LAB?!?! come on, the lady was crazy... cruly tail--pfffttt who gives a crap; Rosie is a cutie pie! <3
Try having a Norwegian Elkhound. Sometimes it seems like we have the only one in the entire state, and get the stupidest "guesses" on what he is. Some guy thought he was a German Shepard, some lady today guessed he was an Akita or at least part, and most people ask what he's mixed with. GSD? Akita? Have you never seen a dog in your life? :p

Smalls is my favorite, though, as she is a mutt. Apparently "Bassador" is some new designer dog, and some people are convinced I paid big money from a breeder for her. An entire rescue organization at an adoption event practically bickered with me over whether or not she was a "specific breed" and despite saying she's a "Bassador" insisting she is purebred.

People always ask if Cameron is a collie-greyhound, or a GSD-greyhound. Nope he's a smooth collie. Well... that inspires another whole conversation.

I've also had a few people comment on how big an Australian Shepherd Toby is. Yes, he's big... that's because he's a blue merle COLLIE.

Holy crow! Don't see one of those very often, and you know what, I actually see a resemblance between those pups and an Irish Wolfhound :p
No one ever gets my dogs' breeds right. The shelties get called collies, border collies, aussies, husky mix...the bc gets called an aussie, and the mini aussie, well, I don't expect people to get that one right, but she's been called a dingo mix and a hyena.

We had a girl in our salon that hadn't the slightest idea what shelties were, and thought they were "miniature collies." because of her and how frustrated some customers look, even if I'm certain, I'll ask someone what kind of dog they have.

Our old neighbors called Animal Control and told them Jack McCoy was a full blown wolf, or at least a mostly wolf.
